ANALYSIS OF FACTORS AFFECTING WEST KALIMANTAN ARECA NUT EXPORTS TO BANGLADESH

Abstract
Bangladesh is one of the destination countries for West Kalimantan areca nut exports, although it has a large market opportunity, the volume of West Kalimantan areca nut exports to Bangladesh still fluctuates from year to year, so this study aims to analyze the factors that influence West Kalimantan areca nut exports to Bangladesh. The independent variables used in this study are Bangladesh's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the international price of areca nut, and inflation, while the dependent variable is the volume of West Kalimantan areca nut exports to Bangladesh. The study uses a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis methods. The data used are secondary data in the form of time series for the period 2015–2024 obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the World Bank , and Trade Map . Before the regression analysis was carried out, the data were tested using the classical assumption test which includes normality, autocorrelation, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity tests. The results of the study indicate that partially Bangladesh's Gross Domestic Product has a positive and significant effect on West Kalimantan areca nut exports to Bangladesh with a significance value of 0.015 <0.05. The international price of areca nut has a negative and significant effect on areca nut exports with a significance value of 0.030 < 0.05. Inflation also has a negative and significant effect on areca nut exports with a significance value of 0.012 < 0.05. Simultaneously, Bangladesh's Gross Domestic Product, the international price of areca nut, and inflation influence West Kalimantan's areca nut exports to Bangladesh. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.699 indicates that 69.9% of the variation in areca nut exports can be explained by the three independent variables, while 30.1% is influenced by other factors outside the research model. The results of this study are expected to be a consideration for the government, exporters, and business actors in formulating strategies to increase West Kalimantan's areca nut exports to Bangladesh.
