DEVELOPMENT OF A REACT–OBE-BASED VIRTUAL LAB WITH AI INTEGRATION FOR INDONESIAN LANGUAGE LEARNING AMONG COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS

Abstract

Advances in digital technology and the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) require learning resources that can enhance student engagement, support the attainment of competencies, and provide rapid and continuous feedback. However, the process of learning Indonesian at the university level is still dominated by conventional methods and thus has not yet been able to fully accommodate the need for interactive and adaptive learning. This study aims to develop and evaluate a REACT-based (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, and Transferring) Virtual Indonesian Language Learning Lab integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the OBE approach. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) methodology using the ADDIE model, which includes the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases. The developed product was validated by media and subject matter experts, then tested on 100 students in the Computer Science program. The research instruments included an expert validation sheet, the System Usability Scale (SUS), and a learning outcome test using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The results showed that the developed Virtual Lab achieved a very high level of validity, with a media expert validation score of 92.83% and a content expert validation score of 94.44%. Usability test results showed a SUS score of 86.15, which falls into the “Excellent” category. Furthermore, the use of the Virtual Lab was able to improve student learning outcomes, as evidenced by an increase in the average score from 61.84 on the pretest to 85.76 on the posttest, with an N-Gain value of 0.63. These findings indicate that the integration of REACT, OBE, and AI in the Virtual Lab creates an interactive, user-friendly learning environment that is effective in enhancing students’ competencies. Thus, the AI-integrated REACT–OBE Virtual Lab has the potential to serve as an innovative alternative for supporting Indonesian language learning in higher education during the era of digital transformation.
